Safety Matta Installation
Matta surfaces are only available from Matta Products, ensuring they’re always professionally installed by our own, expert installation team. We take pride in every installation, guaranteeing a first class finish at each site. And as we work closely with all the UK’s leading play equipment manufacturers you can be sure that your safety surfacing will both compliment the equipment and be installed to an exact fit.
Safety Matta can be laid on existing grass surfaces, seeded topsoil or new turf, and is installed with a mesh underlay that helps prevent it from sinking into the ground during wet weather. All edges are securely fixed using 250mm nylon self locking stakes and are buried into the ground, ensuring a trip free installation.

design allows the surfacing to be easily added to as a playground develops, making Matta surfacing one of the most
versatile play surface solutions available.
- Unturfed and worn out areas are compacted and then turfed or seeded with grass seed
- Non grass areas are levelled with screened topsoil and seeded (Matta Products use its own mix of ryegrass and fescues)
- Deep areas of soil are compacted in layers to help prevent subsidence
- We use a 35kg compactor so the ground does not get over-compacted thus preventing growth of roots
- We compact in thin layers of approximately 3 to 4 inches so that the base is firm for the installation
- A site with a combination of grass / soil & seed or turf creates no problem for the Matta team!
- To help prevent the Safety Matta from sinking into the ground during wet weather, quality mesh underlay is laid first
- The Safety Matta tiles are laid on top of the mesh underlay
- Perimeter edges are buried into the surrounding soil to provide a gentle ramped edge and are securely fastened using 5 x 225 mm nylon pins per 500mm length (which securely lock into recesses in the mats)
- In no time at all grass quickly grows through the mats making them virtually invisible as they blend in with the natural environment.
